The same applies to running a startup business. By constantly telling yourself that you requires funding, you will end up spending lots of time looking for fundings. Why not tell yourself that you require better UI for your users and eventually you will build a stronger membership base which eventually leads to sponsorship?

Hello Steve
Like you, I also understand what you're talking about. I have recently entertained the idea of doing business online. I dont know how "blogging" will help earn an income, hell, I'm not sure I know what blogging is, other than writing, and I'm not sure I could think of something original to say every day, but one thing is for sure, and thats that between my full time job, my part time job, and any side work I can find, making a living is becoming increasingly difficult.
The reason I made this entry, is because it sounds to me as if you do in fact have a real passion. Your frustration with trying to have an intelligent conversation with anyone about politics is evidence of that. So this is my message to you: Keep writing. I know I always will, regardless of all the "party" people out there, who think its the dems against the reps. Let 'em know that it isnt the dems against the reps, its freedom against slavery. I don't know where you're located, but I thought I couldnt do much until I became a part of the we the people foundation. Please keep having those conversations, because for me, in ONE of those conversations, my mind opened up, and I began to question everything. I don't think blogging is a good activity anymore, sometimes I find it boring, articles are not the same, you can post anything even if is not interesting, when you really want to express something good or maybe a good feeling no one really cares, but what can we do now? who is gonna worry about blog's content?

Wow! 500 blog posts is quite a lot. I think about something you enjoy is important, however it seems that most people have their opinions about certain topics. I think most people blog in the first place because they feel that it is something that they enjoy talking about and networking about. Getting to know their peers in the same "realms" of knowledge and curiosity. Otherwise why spend your time blogging?

It’s funny you mention blogging as the new black, because I’m pretty sure that’s how I got started on my own blog. I mean sure wanted to write and all, and I had ideas, but like BLOG was the f-ckin’ thing to do said everyone. I might rather write a book but that leaves the issue of getting it published and getting your thoughts to an audience once you’re done. There’s the potential for all that writing to go to waste… don’t you find that’s scary?

I've always been a proponent of beginning at some kind of goal. It's really easy to burn time with all this Web 2.0 stuff if you don't know what you want to accomplish. At least if you have a firm idea of where you are going, you can do what needs to be done to get there. Thanks for reading.

Agreed. I am seeing a huge swing towards economy/political posts with very little emphasis on tech, even from tech bloggers. I think what it boils down to is that we are all human and we tend to follow whatever trend lines are the strongest -- right now, for better or for worst, this is the most widely reported news in the country so many of us report on it.

Some really good points here Steve, its easy with web 2.0 fads to get caught in groupthink, the whole world is not using twitter, just about no-body is, you don't a blog to be heard, just having a blog will not get your readers like before.

Start at your goal, work back to the medium that will help you achieve it. Its really hard to give up blogs that aren't working because you feel emotionally invested to them, but if you spread yourself too thin nothing you do will be successful.

I understand everything you said here. A lot of times I don't have anything worth saying, other times I do. I think that is why I maintain the amount of subscribers I do. I try not to waste their time. Right now I don't much to say except about politics, and I don't want to write about politics anymore because it almost impossible to have an intelligent conversation about politics. I'm not interested in yelling and arguing and defending this politician or that politician. I'm interested in ideas not personalities and not parties. No one is talking about ideas right now.
