How To Split An Atom: World’s Thinnest Televisions Making It To Market

  • JBO · 1 year ago
Wow - that is a lot of cash to just get it slightly thinner - especially considering your standard flat panels have come down so much in price recently.

I guess at the moment these are for the super rich but in a couple of years they will become a lot cheaper.

hang on... free shipping... nope still can't justify it.

I know, the free shipping almost got me too.

why? just so it sits that much closer to the wall? just take your old flat panel and embed it into the wall...cheaper

I think the idea that there working with here is that these screens also have much higher picture quality and resolution. The gimmick is how thin they are, but I think you would buy them for the improved resolution. Is that worth $2,500 to you? Open question.

They can't possibly be trying to tap into the mainstream market at those steep prices. In a few years they will become about as obsolete and under-appreciated as the old Sony Betamax's of yesteryear.

I'm very interested in OLED and the fact that TVs are getting thinner. But how long until they become available AND affordable to the general public?

Free shipping was really attractive though :)

I don't get the obsession with thin TV's. Wow my TV is 2mm thinner than yours! YEY!

I care more about viewing angles, resolution, response time, etc...

It's just amazing how the technology has developed during the last few years. I've heard that sony expiences even with nano-particles.
@Eric, I like your pragmatism^^Do it with your 1989's boob tube and you got a flatscreen as well:)

Far too expensive for a 11' LCD. Prices will drop once competitors start introducing similar technology.

Cool stuff, no doubt. And, how thin can they get? But, at this point, it is just not affordable for the average consumer. At some point, though, that day has to come.

Personally, I am not for the slim line TVs. Although they may not take up much space, they seem very fragile.

I long for the days when things were built to last.
