I think being happy also depends on the circumstances and the measure of your influence. tell a homeless guy how much money he needs to live he will probably say 'Enough money to get me drunk.' Some would say the homeless guy has a lot of time to live, but no direction - or means to make money.

A great philosopher once said "there's nothing worse than uncertainty, its like having no soul"

...No wait that's Spiderman!

Re: Why Do You Work?

Or I could simply marry rich, then I'd have an INFINITE runway...

I am just kidding,I think,Thank you for your answers,it's always a pleasure to read you

Lucie

Re: Why Do You Work?

I appreciate your thoughts .You are saying right ,If every one do that work which he like then he can perform better than that work in which he has no interest .

Re: Why Do You Work?

i'd do my job for free. i love my job

Re: Why Do You Work?

This is very true... It's something that many people only tend to realise (sadly) when they reach a point in their life where they look back and see that in their pursuit of money they have actually missed out on so much "living".

Re: Why Do You Work?

Yeah, the reason why I'm working is to buy foods, pay the bills, donate to charities and blah, blah, blah...

If I'm the millionaire, then I'm not bother to work at all!

Re: Why Do You Work?

And it was great hearing from you. It's nearly impossible to know what the future brings. I guess the only thing I could say about that is to make certain that you hope for the best and prepare for the worst. It's very rarely "how much" money you make but how well it is managed that determines what happens in the long term.

Re: Why Do You Work?

I find it very hard to believe that most people would work because they love it.They must work to get the bills paid and get food on the table. Then there are those who can turn a job into a hobby and get paid really well for doing so.

Re: Why Do You Work?

indeed, great post.
i have found that often times when i have less money i have less choices to make on what i "should" spend money on and life seems a bit simpler. it does seem that a balance needs to be struck, though, between how much work i'm doing and how much i actually NEED more money.

Re: Why Do You Work?

Or I could simply marry rich, then I'd have an INFINITE runway...

I am just kidding,I think,Thank you for your answers,it's always a pleasure to read you

Lucie

Re: Why Do You Work?

It's true that a job higher up the corporate ladder entails greater stress and therefore reduces happiness but with the money you can buy for example a nicer car and bigger house (some things that may increase happiness) so I guess it's more down to what's important to you personally. There are many people that are perfectly happy being humble family oriented people whilst others are driven by power and finance.

I think every job has some degree of stress, after all that's why it's called a job and why you get paid to do it but finding the right job with the right workplace and colleagues can really make a difference to your happiness.

Re: Why Do You Work?

It depends on what you do. Assuming that you have some experience in your
field, a full time job in that area would probably 1. pay more 2. have
better benefits 3. have more reasonable hours than freelancing (running your
own business. My point is that if you are putting in the extra blood, sweat
and tears to get a business off the ground it should be towards some goal
more robust than simple survival because if survival is the only thing
you're looking for, that same drive and motivation could probably be turned
towards a corporate job for "easier" results.

Sorry if I was at all unclear.

Re: Why Do You Work?

Ok then tell me what are the other gigs you are talking about in your infinite runeway article?

Re: Why Do You Work?

Ok Ok,understood,I'll quit my job tomorrow

Re: Why Do You Work?

Ha! Unfortunately it is very expensive to travel and work most times coincides with my want to travel. I think I work hard to afford to travel and so that I can have the opportunity to do so when I retire.

Re: Why Do You Work?

while we are still young, we can figure out how much money we need. but how much we need after we retire? Our earning skills are going to go down; and needs are going to increase. so how much money is really needed?

of course, that should not take us off the balance. we should enjoy 'here and now'.

Re: Why Do You Work?

Yeah thats true... but some of us like money so we can travel and see the world.. and things like that.. not just to buy a flat screen tv or the top of the line BMW... its all just about what makes you happy in life..

Re: Why Do You Work?

My point is determining how much money you -need- to do the things that you
want. If you need millions to fly around the world, then you better get to
work but even so there comes a point where the grind required to get this
money eats the time you'd spend doing the things that you love. The balance
is absolutely critical.

Re: Why Do You Work?

Holy Balls thats a great post....
