How To Split An Atom: Techcrunch 50: Field Notes

    “Teach kids how to save.”
This is an awsome idea. We have to teach our kids about saving as early as possible and get them into the habit. They don't learn anything about it at school and if they watch the tv then all they learn is how to spend spend spend.

    Great idea!

It was a cool idea. They have some adoption issues, but if they can get past those and get the banks to buy in it will be great.

The stock one sounds sort of interesting and sounds like it has a lot of potential, I might have to give it a try.

Someone might be doing it already, but it would be cool to set up an experimental site that let you invest and track imaginary funds in the stock market. It could be used to teach people about the stock market and has educational applications...

I really liked the stock one. I'll need to look at it more closely and test it against the market a bit. Even if it works "most of the times." It could be a lot cheaper than an analyst.

Interactive and Robo collaborative robo kids sending spam email while saving their money and investing in the stock market, hanging out in their cool threadless tshirts and buying more stuff with less clicks.

My brain is about to explode (see it on a Flash Widget that you can download) Feel free to annotate this comment with your corrections in text or video.

That was probably the most confusing comment you've ever left Ophelia. I think I am going to start playing Social Networking bingo. Every time I hear "Social network" I am going to mark a square.

i was trying to use a bit of each pitch from TC50...yes, I drink way too much coffee. :O)

Heh, and you made the greatest product of the bunch.

Don't forget to add "Collaborative" "Interactive" and my latest fave "Social Marketing Guru" to the Networking Bingo game.

Looking forward to your reviews! I'm very interested in the Aston Kucher project he's been working on. He's a very smart guy, but his 'Hollywoodness' would lead you to think otherwise.

I'm hoping to be able to go next year! So jealous...

It's not a bad idea at all. I actually liked it. I wouldn't call it a startup but it's not bad.

    “Teach kids how to save.”

Excellent idea and I wish them all the luck in the world.

I think games like The Sims do a much better job of this and have a much broader audience and reach.

It will probably take a serious developer to make a really good virtual social world with a good economy that teaches values.

Stockmood sounds cool, but maybe too niche. It could fall into a gap - people who are really into stocks don't need it & it's out of league for people who aren't. Liked the idea of iThryv but could only access the site once, ever since it's been down - sad when you get the benefit of this sort of publicity.
But you're bang on, we could do with some really new ideas - as Ophelia has been observing recently, webspace i beginning to get a bit tired & stale without new contributions of real significance.

    Hello Steve!

Thanks for writing about OtherInbox on your blog. The TC50 conference in San Francisco earlier this month was a great forum to launch our new service to the public and we were really honored to be chosen to participate. We'd like to invite you to join our private beta that we announced at the conference, and we're happy to extend the invitation to your readers as well! Because we're in private beta, you need to have a special URL to sign up. This URL will work for 26 invitations (one for you and 25 for your readers) if you want to post as a followup on your blog.

Nice idea, but I'm afraid a little (of all that virtual world)

Because when we begin (my wife and I) to play civilization - we've forgot for each other for a month.
I couldn't imagine what could it be, if it will be WOW :)
