I don't think a blogger can be held responsible for stating his opinion, however it's important to get facts correct. I guess if he said the company filed bankruptcy when they didn't, that surpasses just giving a bad review but inaccurate information.

I have not heard of this story, but I question the amount of influence of a blog or blogger can have on the development, unless the officer has been followed and adored by many. To justify $ 25mil, all lost in this agreement by the mediator release of an agent, developer of influence and reputation of the agent with money and jobs.

It's a tricky one. There's got to be some restraint shown by bloggers who could otherwise damage and ultimately bankrupt a business potentially just out of spite. On the other hand the public need to be allowed access to information which could save them from making major mistakes.

This will be an interesting case to follow. The internet is opening up all new territory and things are constantly changing. I hope that people will still be able to express their opinions and given free speech, not that they should use it to spread lies or hurt others though. I think that Lucas had some misinfomation and mistakes happen but unless the developer can show malicious intent, his slow business is not totally due to the blog and he should not be made to pay.

While I think the law suit is ridiculous, it is one thing to give an opinion about how you feel about something and quite another to give false and damaging information. Based on your article, he incorrectly stated that the company went bankrupt when in fact they did not. If that is true then it is clearly libel and he should be held accountable.

I am curious to see how this lawsuit turns out. I have had some complaints about some of the sites where reviews can be posted as they believe they have no obligation to verify that the information posted by others is true. Someone has to be accountable for the false postings that are meant to attack.
