How To Split An Atom: Just Be Honest

  • ophelia_chong · 1 year ago
Not being honest is essentially the fear of not being liked. You want to be liked so you will say anything that the client wants to hear.

Honesty takes courage. There is a difference though between Honesty and outright mean. Honesty is what you do when you want to move everyone towards a goal, outright meaness is an opinion that you know will hurt someone.

Finding that balance is the art of it.

Steve, Think about all the times where someone asked what they should do and what should they say when faced with a difficult decision or conversation. Rather than just being honest we spend more time trying to lie, deceive and wiggle our way out of it. Reminds me of the people that work really hard not to work-seems sorta labor intensive and that being honest and truthfull is really easy and not very labor intensive???

Agreed, huge, laborious meetings are held on how to "respond" to problems
when the most obvious answer is to diminish it by being forthright. There is
this assumption that honesty will lead the more problems, when the reality
is that being upfront almost always takes the poison out of the fangs of an
    attack.

You are absolutely right. If you are looking for a long-term relationship with your customers, you should be honest to them about your product.
I have a retail business selling handicrafts from developing countries. Many times I have been ripped off by dishonest sellers, and I have stopped buying from them. This has also taught me a lesson about honesty towards my own customers.

It's a hard lesson to learn sometimes. Often it's "easier" to gild the truth, you have to be willing to push yourself to honest.

It'll never miss, what's weird is actually being the ones actually motivating those thoughts inside a new area, hope classical retail in big stores will get 'that way' too.

btw "Belle collection de bijous que vous avez. Interessante section sur les objets relatifs au Tibet egalement." ;p

I think you are absolutely right about the direct approach. This is true not only of marketing, but really dealing with people in general.

If you make people jump through hoops to find out what you are selling, they will be tired of jumping, and possibly upset, by the time they get to the actual 'product'. I have found that it is a whole lot easier to live with, deal with, and accept a problem if you know it going in.

Absolutely, people screen out most of your song and dance anyway. Sometimes it's "useful" but most of the time it just proves you have something to hide. The more concise the pitch, the easier it will be for someone to swallow.

Being deceiving could get you a sale but once caught by your customers chances are that customer will no longer buy what you offer and they may even give you a bad wrap.
