Although the fixed O2 network iPhone in the UK is nearly finished, I can still see why people wanted to unlock their iPhones, as O2's service isn't as good as Orange's in my opinion. I'm happy that the iPhone is coming out on Orange and Vodafone soon!

I do plan on getting one for personal use, but will wait till next year. Still not impressed with the locked iPhone twists currently provided by a few mobile operators.

Hacks and hackers just can't be beaten no matter how much you try. Anyone a counter-strike player? That battle has been going on for years. Even with Valve's inbuilt anticheat system.

Hi steve,

Interesting read, but i think the solution is pretty simple for that statement; simply don't upgrade the firmware version.

I own a iPhone with software 1.1.1 installed, thus 1.1.3 is out and pre-installed on new phones now.

I don't update merely because i "hacked" it, so i was able to use my phone in Denmark where i reside.

The benefits of the "hacked" version, is being able to install 3rd party applications on the iPhone, with APPTAPP repositories - see the list here:

So for a simple solution; don't plug in to iTunes and update firmware.

I wasn't to aware of how big the issue was with people hacking the iPhone until one of the writers at my Highbrid Nation site did a story on it.

I'd rather wait until Apple decides to make it official. though i do admire the guys who are smart enough to hack those things.
