  • I like your idea on the use of mainstream media. Although ideally, these are utilized only by big multi-national corporations that are already established, startups can also employ them without needing big sums of money. Press releases which can be just submitted to newspaper publishers can come in cheap and handy. The idea for online advertising can also prove more effective than roving trucks, billboards and other forms of terrestrial advertising.
  • Great ideas - especially using the local press. Local stories often get picked up by the national press once they get sufficient momentum.

Still, the best advertising is word of mouth and just like the online world, meatspace loves freebies. So give away a free meal, hold a competition or offer some trinket that complements your service. Sounds corny but still works.
  • Nice article....

We just launched and are finding attending Internet startup events and conferences to be a big help in spreading the word about our unique service!

    Cheers
  • Yes we just launched and have found that attending Internet startup events and conferences helps with getting word out.

    Nice article!
  • Awesome Ideas! But I definitely get savy before you do anything on Google Adwords. Find your market before bringing a product to market. Adwords can be great but find a niche and focus on longtail keywords.
  • Also remember to not be boring, and be remarkable in everything you do. Do things that gets people talking about your business. Like driving an Ariel Atom to work and having 10 people in logo'd shirts drive to work on shiny scooters to beat traffic got my biz on the news and local papers resulting in $100k's worth of free exposure and overload in business.
