How To Split An Atom: How To Improve Your Memory

  • Alex · 2 years ago
It's a very good idea for an article... problem is that you didn't expand it enough, i can clearly see that the details are coming from a person who's tired.

Try this: think of ideas at night, and write the articles the next day

Is there any particular element of the article that should be expanded upon? Thanks for the feedback!

I can see what the previous commenters had in mind - really now, not your best of articles - the intro is much too long, only to tell people that in order to improve their memory they should:

    a. try to memorize names by embedding them in a senseless story
    b. write things down on paper
    c. write things down on a web20 website
    d. write things down on a pda
    e. take files with them on a flashdrive

See? I made my list only 5 lines long and it's already easier to remember...
Really now, the article could have been made a lot more insightful if only you've taken a quick google search on mnemonics and memory...

    Excellent critique.

Though I will say the list above misses the point a bit.

Consider this article meta-content. It contains a large amount of possibly superfluous information not only because people really don't gain a thing from reading dry 'top 5' lists, but also because it's just easier to remember because it contains elements of the ridiculous.

I guess it is a part of my learning style, if I read something entertaining I found that I retain the information more easily. That's why I like reading 43 Folders instead of just paging through David Allen's book. I find Merlin Mann to be the more entertaining communicator.

Again, it's just a question of how to learn. I did, however, provide a summary at the end for those who wanted to skip to the juicy parts.

Thanks again for taking the time to comment!

I think repetition is the key. But not everything needs to be memorized. I remember when I was studying for GRE, the most difficult section for me was Verbal (I score 100% in Quantitative and Analytical). To overcome it, I started reading a lot - whatever I could find - novels, magazines, essays and the GRE book. I never tried to memorize the words from GRE book instead I would just go through them repeatedly. During GRE, I didn't remember the words but I could figure out the meaning and context. That helped me. And yes, the pocket cards helped in that.

This posts provide good suggestions but I can understand what other commenters are talking about. May be the title and the introduction are not exactly coherent with the content. Expectations vs. satisfaction.

I agreed with your thought here, Steve as I'm always keep a small notebook inside my pocket. So, when I have a nice or provoking ideas that suddenly flashed over my mind, I will quickly jot it down without any delation!

great share indeed but i think if you practice to remember small things first then eventually you will see that your memory can store long strings also. The must is don't break the flow of it.Another intresting thing is few softwares are also available acroos the market to increase your memory even they are available for your mobile also.so it may be helpful.
