How To Split An Atom: How Do You Beat Advertising Blindness?

  • Tarky7 · 1 year ago
I am always looking for innovative, creative and funny ads.

This was the reason that advertising agencies originally formed. These days, one is hard pressed to find Ads coming from agencies that are any of those above reasons. Recently I have been doing some interviews, there are a couple of agencies that have expressed interest in hiring me for my wit and charm. ;) So I have been doing some research, and the big agencies are all gone, they have been absorbed into these 3 giant global holding companies. Yuk !

The great thing about this fact, Steve, is that there will always be room and business for small, creative, witty, intelligent people to shill another product, as long as we have the detachment to give the client a NO BS assessment of their product and message.

    =^-^=

    That is a great point.

Since the big three control just about everything, advertising has lost the close to the ground flair that is required in order to sell products in an increasingly jaded market.

Of course, there are plenty of great advertisers out there but for the most part, ads are becoming derivative ( a common lament, yes, but not a wholly inaccurate one). That's one of the reasons conversion rates are generally so bad.

We are getting to the point where we need more independent firms doing just what you're saying -- understanding some market and being able to reach it with wit and creativity instead of assuming every market segment follows a near identical script.

    Well said mate.

HAHA... that ESPN Brazil ad was hilarious. Urinal Soccer/Futbal, that is funny and good clean fun too. Well.... maybe not clean fun. :)

Marketers are the scurge of this plantet. quite pushing commodities we do not want or need.

i really like that one with the blood on the floor...in contrast, i did not like the bag with the gun on it. strange that both designs play on violence and i like one and dislike the other.
  • Leroy · 1 year ago
I thought the bathroom blood add was for women's hygiene products. I thought it was dumb and doesn't have anything to do with the film other than blood. LAME!!!

I like the Ibuprofen ad. That's one mighty headache.
  • sexy and funny BaBe · 1 year ago
The one that definitely has my attention is Kill Bill.

But the one with the gun in the hand is really asking for trouble. If there's a trigger happy cop in your vicinity, things could get really nasty.

    Some clever ads here.

I hate ads. I think the Kil Bill ad is in extremely poor taste. The Ibuprofen ad makes me wince.
The bag with the gun is another ad that may be mistaken for the real thing. I don't understand snowman, smoking or rebe ad. I live in Ontario and I find the WSIB ads effective. I remenber their ld slogan with ads of this sort:" You've got it [a mind], use it." I which everyone was proactive to avoid accidents.

Absolutely remarkable. Thanks for this. Difference between this and most of other ads is that these ads spark curiosity and make people 'want' to look.

    lol @ the urinal one

I love the toilet one with the soccer ball.

If you want excellent marketing then go with Fire Pixel Marketing (http://fire-pixel.com)

Cool. The wall plug one is pretty good, but I wonder how long it took that agency to nail it with the light-bulb icon...
  • Jack9 · 1 year ago
None of these ads are convincing or promoting the product in a positive light. While some of them are shocking, only the first (Rock City) is even memorable.
  • Jim · 1 year ago
The power outlet is from Regina, SK, Canada. It was there like 6 months ago and I still remember it.

I like the blood on the floor. The rest were so so.

If you were carrying that bag that looks like a gun in LA you're guaranteed to get tazed.
  • Tamer Mohse · 1 year ago
This what you can call it an advertisement, the advertisement must attract you and convince you with the product they advertise.
  • moose · 1 year ago
That Zwinky ad at the end is very clever too...
  • David Greiman · 1 year ago
Ouch! That pole in the head!
  • Dutch · 1 year ago
the "smoking 800,-" one is not clever advertising. a 'smoking' is the dutch word for 'tuxedo'. Its just a sale sign that happened to drip all over.

i liked the paperbag with the gun. very funny, i looks real at first glance.
  • Advertising Guy · 1 year ago
Bet the sign guys hated the pole through the head ad. I think that the barn might actually answer the title question about how to get messages out of the blind spot. Context helps.

I was amazed by looking at all these example advertisements that are really creative and atypical looking. What I always had in mind is just billboards and typical posters. Yet, now I am reminded that there are more ways to be CREATIVE.
The one that I liked the most and thought very interesting was the one with toilet and a soccer field inside. It was very creative. :)
  • Dwayne Tucker · 1 year ago
I must say that they are real clever! I am a student at Savannah College of Art and Design studying advertising and I run an agency as well. I am a freak for it =) You all will see work of my own this clever someday.

    Take care; post more!

These are so awesome. I think the Kill Bill one is the best. If I saw that in a restroom I would without a doubt check it out.
  • Creative Inspiration · 1 year ago
stunning effect achieved with blood on the floor in a toilet. good work.
  • mirha494 · 1 year ago
The one promoting The Kill Bill is great cause you cant just walk into a completely white WC and avoid looking at the blood. LoL, The others are great too however the Kill Bill is my favorite.
  • SEO Salisbury · 1 year ago
These are fantastic I think I may have even seen the Kill Bill advertisement in London somewhere. The urinal advertisement is genius they should fit these in every gents.

    I love the snowman one!

Although some of these adverts capture the attention of the viewer, you still haven't clarified if they actually work. I'm what you might call an "informed consumer" and I very deliberately don't and won;t pay any attention to adverts. Ever. So regardless of how "clever" they are, they're not going to work on someone like me.
