Ophelia - you are so right - people underestimate the power of small kindnesses. Sometimes all it takes to get through the night is knowing someone cared enough to wonder how you are doing.

A kind word goes a long way. We all know that one negative person can just turn your day upside down.

    :O)

Lovely words in which I live by, even when my life sucks complete ass (sorry for the visual :-)) I always lend a hand without thinking anything of it....cuz that is all there is in this life. Individuals in which all relationships and interactions have meaning. Do for yourself as you would for others. Maybe it took something on such a grand scale for some to come to that setting at the dinner table? Great one Ophelia--love your writing!

nice advice especially since the worst of what's to come hasn't hit yet and more and more folks will be in need of a helping hand.

I have always found that in times of need,we respond. There will be families homeless, more unemployed, and a winter coming up that some seniors will be hard pressed to pay for heating oil.

Small gestures now go a long way. A smile, a kind word. Even a box of non perishable food dropped off to your local church or food bank goes a long way. :O) thanks for commenting.

:O) And it also goes back to the story of the Good Samaritan.

The best comes out of the worse, we will surprise ourselves by the good that can come out of these hard times. Already with Sen.Obama's message of hope and change, we are seeing the strength of the community come together.

    Thanks for posting. :O)

I appreciate this post as well. It is very interesting. I think that most everyone feels this way about helping others. And to be honest any little bit helps. I agree with Tracy. She is absolutely correct, that when you are down the best way to get you up in a down economy is to help others. I am a firm believer that what goes around comes around. Thank you for the post!

It does make a difference to know that there are people like you who want it as bad and they are still willing to offer a helping hand, how ever small it may be. A few words of encouragement or kindness go a long way to boost up spirits.
