I think your analysis of the 4 types of blog posts is pretty much spot on. It is a great way to classify the blogs and is very accurate.
This is one of the reasons I like using social sites, well really there is only one I like to use now. There are some quality ones out there, where users post and vote enough that quality articles make it to the front page and spam gets, largely, suppressed.
I have found a lot of great blogs this way, because you can sort out a lot of the noise and find people with substance. People that answer the how and the why.

What a comprehensive post, I agree completely with wasting time on drivel just to post something, on my blog, I rather post twice a week with good rich content than everyday with garbage.
