How To Split An Atom: 10 Firefox Plugins For Networking Addicts

  • 3Mushrooms London Ontario Web · 1 year ago
Thanks for this list, firefox is just awsome and the fact you can have plug-in makes it 100x better.

There are some SEO plug-ins too that could be useful for web developers that show results right in google search.

Yes, there are. SearchStatus and SEO Quake could be very useful, depending on your situation. Personally I have Search Status, but it doesn't figure into my networking on a daily basis, so I didn't include it.

I'm finding it difficult to switch back to FF after using Safari for the last few weeks. Safari just seems to look better, but it is slower and it doesn't have all of the great plugins like FF.

I gave safari a try last summer and to be honest, I'm just not a fan. Firefox is still far and away my favorite browser.

Thanks for the helpful tools. I'd like to add a couple to your list:

TinyURL - does same thing as Bit.ly Creator
Firebug - Awesome tool for web developers. Let's you point at the browser and see the code.
SEO Quake - Shows SEO data in toolbar for present site and search results
    SearchStatus - Shows SEO data

I use search status, although with Page Rank figuring less into Google's algorithm it's not as useful as it once was. I used to have SEO Quake, but to be honest got annoyed by the overwhelming amount of information, most of which I didn't use. I'm sure it's great for someone who's a little heavier into SEO than I am.

I realized that TinyURL had a plugin not long after I finished writing this, I use bit.ly, but TinyURL is just as good.

Firebug is great, especially for developers. I, however am not a developer, although I did turn our lead designer onto both firebug and Y-Slow.

Thanks for the heads up on the IE tab plug-in. Really is great for running multiple email accounts.
  • Greg Hollingsworth · 1 year ago
I know, I was damn near ecstatic when I discovered that it made that possible. IE Tab has become one of my favorite plugins.

Very useful list, thanks! I work for Vidoop so I am biased but I really like the password management solution we have at http://myVidoop.com

It is a free browser plugin (http://twurl.cc/2rj ) and will store all your online passwords. You can keepe your passwords locally or online with myVidoop. If you store your passwords on myVidoop then they are accessible from anywhere. Our FF plugin also does form filling for you.

I keep a copy of FireFox portable on a thumb drive, along with the plugin installed and password file and have a completely portable solution that I can plug in anywhere. Once I am done I just unplug the drive and move on. If anyone found the drive they would still need to authenticate with the ImageShield on http://myVidoop.com and I could easily deactivate the portable browser…

    Cheers,
    Kevin

I'll have to take a look at Vidoop, although I do like Sxipper. I'll check it out.

My favourite firefox plugins are FireFTP, Colozilla and Measureit
  • Greg Hollingsworth · 1 year ago
I love FireFTP, I have played with Colozilla (but not being a designer, I didn't have a ton of use for it). Measureit sounds interesting, I'll have to check it out.

    Love the fox photos throughout!

Yeah. Kudos to SBSpalding for putting that together.

I think I'm going to stick with Sxipper for now, the idea of starting over with a new tool makes me tired. Vidoop seems like a great tool, so if you're not using a passwrod manager/form filler definitely check it out.

You know, I hate that download popup window too. I just hate it. I've never even thought about checking for a firefox plugin. Thanks so much. I feel stupid because of how happy this makes me. Seriously.
  • Greg Hollingsworth · 1 year ago
Don't, I hate the download window as well. The status bar makes life much easier.

Great list , thank you! i use some plugins and they are very useful for me.

Thank you, Greg, for the plug and the nice feedback!

I have reinstalled Firefox so many times on various computers, and the first plugin I always jump on is the Download Status Bar plugin. I also hate it with a passion. It's nice to have a little bar on the bottom that you can always glance at to see the percentage of the downloads.

Then I always get Foxmarks. I have a computer and a laptop that I use all the time, and I need the same bookmarks on both, so this little plugin works wonders for me.

Thanks for the list, with the download statusbar for my firefox makes it even better!
